DIETETIC SUPPORT FOR MENTAL HEALTH CONDITIONS

Nicola’s role involves translating complex nutrition science into practical, compassionate strategies that support both physical and psychological recovery. She works across the full spectrum of eating, mental health, and neurodevelopmental presentations, and regularly supports clients with complex, overlapping needs. This includes:

  • Assessment and treatment of eating disorders and disordered eating, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, OSFED, ARFID, and subthreshold or emerging eating disorder presentations.

  • Nutritional rehabilitation and meal planning tailored to individual medical, psychological, and functional needs, including weight restoration where indicated, stabilisation of eating patterns, and reduction of eating disorder behaviours.

  • Support for neurodivergent individuals, including those with ADHD and ASD, addressing challenges such as impulsivity around food, interoceptive differences, sensory sensitivities, rigid or avoidant food patterns, executive functioning difficulties, and appetite regulation, even where criteria for a formal feeding or eating disorder diagnosis are not fully met.

  • A trauma-informed, weight-neutral, and neuro-affirming approach to restoring food flexibility, body trust, and autonomy, particularly for individuals with a history of chronic dieting, body image distress, or weight stigma.

  • Support for co-occurring mental health and medical concerns, including anxiety disorders, depression, OCD, perfectionism, emotional dysregulation, gastrointestinal symptoms, and nutritional deficiencies that may affect mood, cognition, and overall psychological wellbeing.

Her approach emphasises compassion, safety, and long-term recovery, helping clients build a more stable and respectful relationship with food and their body, while ensuring nutritional adequacy in a way that aligns with their mental health, neurobiology, and lived experience.
